A Lifetime Committed to Lycoming County
Jeff Wheeland brings to the State House a unique mix of experience and understanding gained as a small business owner, proven local elected official, lifelong resident, father and taxpayer.
Deep Community Roots
Jeff has deep roots in our community. Born and raised here, Jeff's family can be traced back to the 1700's in Lycoming County. He learned early from his parents the values that are important to our families: education, hard work and helping others.
Jeff attended Montour Street Elementary School and graduated from Montoursville High School. He earned an A.D. in Business Management from the former Williamsport Area Community College, and attended other post-secondary courses at Lycoming College.
Successful Small Businessman and Job Creator
Throughout his life, Jeff worked at his family's business, Home Service Beverage, which has served our community for more than 40 years. In the early 1990's, Jeff took over this family business and worked to make it even more successful. In 1997, he started a second local company, First Ice, which manufactures packaged ice. Today, Jeff has left those businesses to focus on serving us, but he still uses the skills he learned to help us.
As a successful businessman, Jeff saw firsthand how the state makes it harder for job creators to thrive. He has also proven his ability to develop a budget, help create jobs and control costs. Now he is using that knowledge in Harrisburg to fight for common sense initiatives that help spark economic growth to keep and create the kind of family sustaining jobs we need.
Proven Local Elected Official
In 2007, driven by a desire to give back to the community that had provided so much to his family for generations, Jeff successfully ran for Lycoming County Commissioner. The people of Lycoming County then reelected him for a second term, in 2011.
As Commissioner, Jeff listened to the concerns of residents then put politics aside and used common sense to do what's right. The result was a positive record that helped everyone in Lycoming County.
Using his business experience and commitment to fiscal discipline, Jeff never raised county property taxes. He was an early proponent of responsible development of the Marcellus Shale that has brought good jobs and economic growth to our area. And he fought for initiatives to help stem the tide of illegal drugs into our community. Jeff's proven record as a County Commissioner gained him the respect of local residents who chose to send him to the state legislature as their voice in 2014.
Getting Results In Harrisburg
Just as he did here at home, in Harrisburg Jeff continues to focus on our priorities – and to put politics aside – to get the results we want.
Jeff stopped a massive income and sales tax increase on Lycoming County's working families and seniors. He delivered record funding for schools. He passed historic pension reform that will save property taxpayers billions of dollars. Jeff continues to be a strong voice for job creation and passed reforms to make it easier for employers to grow and expand. And he has worked side-by-side with local leaders, community groups and residents to address important local issues.
In Touch With & Understanding Our Community
The father of four grown sons – and proud grandparent of two – Jeff believes strongly in family; when his children were growing up, he was an active coach in youth sports. As State Representative, he will always work for what's best for all our families.
Jeff is an avid hunter and fisherman, a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and has given his time and energy to local civic groups like the Red Cross.
As a lifelong member of our community, and as a son, father and taxpayer, Jeff understands the concerns faced by working families and seniors – concerns over making ends meet, worrying about the future we leave our children and ending the scourge of drugs in our neighborhoods. It is this understanding that he will carry to Harrisburg. It is this understanding that he will use to help make a positive difference for all of us.
