Wheeland Announces Re-Election Bid

State Representative Jeff Wheeland (R-83) announced today that he will be running for re-election in the 83rd House District seat he was first elected to in 2014.

“As Representative, I have worked hard to keep the promises I made, and to truly listen to the people of Lycoming County,” Wheeland said. “I am happy that in the short time I have been in Harrisburg we are making progress, but there is still more I want to accomplish to help local residents.”

Wheeland has quickly become known in Harrisburg as someone who brings common sense – along with the experience gained as a former small business owner and former Lycoming County Commissioner – to the issues.

“My time in public service has been based on looking at the issues and asking a simple question: ‘What is right for the people I serve?’” Wheeland said. “That is something I have continued as Representative: saying no to partisan politics and instead being an independent voice focused on results.”

“I know what it takes to make Pennsylvania more competitive when it comes to keeping and attracting job creators, and I have fought for the reforms to make that happen,” Wheeland said. “Growing our economy and making sure people have the opportunity for employment is one of the best ways we can help every Pennsylvanian.”

Wheeland, who built a strong record of fiscal conservatism and standing up for property taxpayers as a Commissioner before becoming Representative, has made working for taxpayers a focus in Harrisburg.

“I promised to stop this Governor’s disastrous agenda of massive income and sales tax increases that didn’t provide property tax relief, and I kept that promise,” Wheeland said. “I also continue to work for bipartisan solutions that will provide further homestead and farmstead tax relief.”

Wheeland pointed to public pension reform and record state funding for basic education as two accomplishments that help taxpayers as well as address the priorities of local residents.

“The historic public pension reform I supported will help save taxpayers billions of dollars in the long run, and address a looming issue for our state and school districts,” Wheeland said. “By supporting historic funding for school districts, we are doing more to provide a quality education to our children and helping ease the burden for property taxpayers.”

As Representative, Wheeland has made listening to local residents and strong constituent services that help people a hallmark of his service.

“The most important part of my job is helping people here at home, and that is always my top priority,” Wheeland said. “From driver’s licenses to birth certificates and everything in between, my staff and I work hard to provide residents with professional, courteous service that helps them.”

A lifelong resident of Lycoming County, Wheeland is an avid hunter and fisherman, and has given his time and energy to local civic groups throughout his adult life.
